The first V8 engine cars were fitted with a scroll in the crankcase and an oil thrower on the rear of the crankshaft as a means of retaining the oil in the sump. Unfortunately, this arrangement nearly always leads to oil leakage from the rear cover. This was dramatically improved when the B series engine was introduced in 1979 for the last of the Silver Shadow II and T2 models and an oil seal was fitted into the rear of the crankcase. This is a new rear crank cover plate (UE41409P), mounting bolts and washers, oil seal that it retains (UE44273P) and two locating dowels (UE5726). Fitting InstuctionsVideo to Accompany Fitting InstructionsPlease note that we strongly recommend that if you are fitting this modification that you also replace the flinger (UE5501) on the rear of the crankshaft with the sleeve UE37777P. If you are removing the crankshaft from the engine then this is a simple procedure. If you are leaving the crankshaft in situ it is manageable but more difficult.Our experience shows that the oil seal creates a tighter seal with a new sleeve than it does with the old flinger.If you have any questions please contact a member of the sales team.
